Over the past few days while conversing with the community here in Kolkata, one thing I realized is that a lot had a confusion on a basic question:

What is Twestival ? Is it a tweetup or something else ?

I will try to explain it as best I can.

Twestival™ (or Twitter Festival) uses social media for social good. Meaning its uses the power of @twitter community to do good via raising funds for charity.  Twestival is a global organization which holds various charity events city-wise all over the world.

All of the local events are organized 100% by volunteers and 100% of all ticket sales and donations go direct to projects. So here in Kolkata Twestival edition, we are doing the same.

On 12 February 2009, the first Twestival Global was held in 202 international cities to support @charitywater, who are doing incredible work to help the almost 1 billion or 1 in 6 people in the world that don’t have access to clean and safe drinking water.

This year, Twestival is holding various charity events locally for the support of the important cause of Education. This is being done by supporting Concern Worldwide which helps poorest of the poor get education. You can follow them here at @concern

So people from Kolkata or people who want to help, can join the Google Group. Hi Everyone,

We plan to hold the Kolkata Twestival 2010 this season in Kolkata along with all our fellow twestivals across the world.

We are at the stage were we are brain storming on how best to hold this event, which is going to happen on 25th March, 2010.

I aka @arjunghosh am organizing the Kolkata Twestival 2010 along with @webreps team support, mainly @doubts & @anirudhlohia and also with @koltweetup support along with various volunteers from Kolkata.

I need more ideas, volunteers, sponsors, etc (anything actually). So all ideas are welcome.

I had some more people interested in volunteering.
